BA(Hons) PGATC textiles at West Surrey College of Art and Design and then taught in private school in Bournemouth. Now teaching adults and painting and exhibiting as much as possible. At the moment specialising in portraits and figures and commissions. Selling work from a gallery in Fishguard.

Although Barbara is trained in textiles her main passion remains painting (Oils, watercolor, pastels and acrylics), enabling more freedom. The range of techniques varies with the subject matter. Over the years Barbara's work has won much acclaim in both her textiles and painting winning prizes in both.

The textile influence can be seen throughout her work especially in her bold use of colour, texture and tonal values. The main inspiration for her work comes from the local environment and watching people going about their everyday business and the ever-changing light and colours of Pembrokeshire and the effect this has on the subject matter whether it's in the form of a landscape or a person.

Her more recent work has been concentrating on landscapes with figures, and portraits of local people of Pembrokeshire, based on sketches and photographs, which then develop spontaneously. The figures have begun to gain more importance and are now the main subject of Barbara's work. "I like to capture isolated human events, a moment in time, an event 'in situ'. Colour helps to give a 'feel' or 'mood' to the painting and the rest is up to the onlooker."

Barbara was born in 1955 in Poole, Dorset. Foundation course at Bournemouth [1975/6], Studied woven textiles [1976-1979] at West Surrey College of Art and Design, Farnham, and then completed a Post-Graduate Art Teachers Course, at the University of Wales, Cardiff [79/80] and then went on to teach up to 'A' level art in a private school in Bournemouth.

In 1982 Barbara married artist Dave Mainwaring and moved to Wales, where her work began to thrive. From 85-90 she worked from a craft studio in Cowbridge and exhibited and sold work nationally and internationally. In 1986 Barbara was invited to exhibit and demonstrate at the Commonwealth institute, London and at the Commonwealth textile exhibition in Edinburgh.

In 1990 her watercolour painting was included in the Royal Institute of paintings in watercolour annual exhibition in the Mall galleries, London.

In 1992 Barbara moved to Trefin, West Wales and then after being widowed in 93 she began teaching in Fishguard Community Centre in 1995 and then married again in 1997 to Elvet Price. Her work is now thriving again and she continues to teach and paint.

Her work has recently been featured in the 'Pembrokeshire Life' magazine, and also featured in a recent book 'Pembrokeshire look upon the land and sea'
