| Career: | Grant Findlay is a Scotsman living in Cardiff. Married with one young son, Grant is a Licensed Aircraft Engineer who moved to Wales with his job, and now works at Cardiff International Airport. He also holds a Pilot's Licence, and so apart from working on aircraft, also flies them. These coupled together, give him a unique insight into his subjects. He paints in his spare time and has been predominately a watercolour artist for the past 5 years. He also has much experience in graphite/pencil drawings. Aviation and nautical subjects are his particular favourites, although he enjoys painting a wide range of subjects. Much of his work has been commissioned from all around the world, notably pieces for British Airways, at their Cardiff base and for a French company which designs and builds specialist access staging. Grant has also undertaken numerous commissions for private aircraft owners, painting pictures of their aircraft in a variety of sizes ranging from large murals downwards. He has been influenced by his surroundings to produce paintings that capture mood, light and sense of movement. His enjoyment in painting comes across in the vibrancy of his pieces. He has various pieces of work in local galleries, and has also been invited to exhibit his work at the St David's Hall Foyer Galleries. He is available for commission work. Grant is also a Technical Officer on the Committee of the South Wales Art Society, responsible for filming/recording, projection and sound systems used for demonstrators, workshops and guest speakers. He enjoys this aspect immensely, and is sympathetic to the needs of the guests. Grant is an excellent communicator, and coupled with his professional experience and sound people skills, can give interesting and lively lectures about his work and subjects. Grant takes great pride in the presentation of his work and all pieces come mounted, framed and with a signed certificate giving details of the picture, materials used and an artist's profile. |
