Pat Huckson - artist

Hi, my name is Pat Huckson. I'm a local painter living in Rhoose, South Wales. My favourite medium is acrylic paint, but I use water colour, oils and pastel when the mood takes me.

I've been painting on and off for the last ten years. I have never had any formal tuition and am self taught. My enduring passion is landscape, woodland scenes, hay bales, streams and the like, also seascapes. I've been known to paint animals and even people indeed I have recently completed a nude! But whatever the subject, it has to capture my imagination and inspire my creative juices - my aim is to create texture, light, and mood to encourage the viewer not only to see the painting, but feel and smell it! My art, as with most people, is an expression of self. I begin with an overall idea of space, knowing exactly how large my work will be and then, working within the limit of space, will select the colours for my chosen subject. Even though I know the basic subject and mood I want to create, whilst the work is in progress, ideas present themselves. The way I have laid the paint might give the impression of water or a tree, and so I generally let it happen and use these little suggestions in the finished painting, because they feel right. It has been said that my paintings are calming, others say it is the harmony of the colours, whatever it is that appeals to the viewer, I am happy that my paintings give pleasure.
