Career | Sandra
taught Art until 1997, when she took early retirement from her post as Head of
Creative Arts in a Sussex comprehensive school. With her husband, she moved to
Cornwall where she painted, and in 2002, moved to the Highlands of Scotland. Upon
bereavement Sandra turned to her painting, with renewed energy, and has developed
an interesting career. Sandra paints, produces modern creative textiles, enjoys
digital photography, and lives a full life in her neighbourhood. She now has a
website, and is enjoying completing commissions. Sandra is an exuberant person, and this is evident in her work; she is keen to share her enthusiasm and passion for painting, and this is a quote from her website: "I paint in response to the natural world around me. I am stirred to observe the intensity of colour caused by the quality of light, the changing seasons and the strong spiritual affinity I sense when I visit certain places, which seem special to me. My paintings of Cornwall were directly motivated by the value of the radiance of the clear air, but underlying that, I found places and things with which I empathised. Cornwall was a spiritual base from which my confidence in my work originated. Now that I am working in Scotland, I find the rich diversity of subject material a great inspiration, but it is the natural world; the lochs, glens, beaches, rocks and watercourses exposed with a clear brightness which stimulates my activities. I like to work with speed, and to keep a vividness and freshness to my images, and so I use acrylic paints and inks to achieve my effects. All my pictures are suitable for framing either glazed or unglazed." | |
