BRUSH STROKES - Art School
Painting, drawing, scratching, sticking, fabrics, paper, threads - art is many things to many people and we believe it is for everyone. We run weekly courses barring the Christmas and New Year period with a maximum of six people per week.
For your convenience we offer four levels of supply with our art week courses:
BRONZE: You bring all the art materials you think you will need with you. you will almost certainly need all the things listed on our 'gold' supply level, please see Equipment list below.
SILVER: You don't have to bring anything, as you will have the use of our materials. a new set of paints is supplied for each artist and of course you take your work home with you.
GOLD: All the basic materials that you will need are supplied for you, for you to take away with you at the end of the week.
PLATINUM: As 'gold' but this level includes your own easel to keep.
Because of the unpredictability of our climate, we can not set in stone which days we will spend out on location, but we aim to go out on three of the five painting days. Regardless of where we are, a light but tasty lunch will be supplied, along with a selection of drinks. (Please email us if you have any particular dietary needs).

Sunday evening: (4.00pm to 6.60pm) we hold an informal meet and greet session with a Devon cream tea; this is a chance for me to show you some of my work; and more importantly, for me to listen to what you hope to gain from your week here.
During the week we will start at 10.00am and finish around 5.00pm
Monday: Sea, sand and boats. the barn is only a few minutes drive from the vastness of the English Channel and the mouth of the river Exe. So Monday is sea-side day! If you fancy pebbles instead of sand then Budleigh Salterton is also close nearby.
Tuesday: We will be painting a village scene. The barn is set just outside the pretty estuary village of Lympstone and this is a continuing source of inspiration. We are lucky that there are many beautiful villages in Devon and quite a few are within easy distance of the barn.
Wednesday: Dartmoor, a day for walking boots wellies and a mack, or sun cream and cold drinks, the weather on Dartmoor can be very unpredictable, but to play safe we will be heading out to Haytor. The Tor itself is probably the most accessible of all the Tors and, despite its popularity; I find it a particularly inspiring place to be. I will be taking my camera with me, in case the weather is against us, if it is then we can bring home photographs to work from.
Thursday: Studio day, this may be spent painting from the sketches and photographs we got from Wednesday's trip to Haytor, or it will be spent doing portraiture, either people or, if you prefer, pets.

Friday: Plants and flowers, either inside with still life or out in the garden; we will try and capture the vivid beauty of plants.

During your art week I will encourage and guide you as your experience dictates. and for those taking our 'silver, gold or platinum' level options you won't even have to worry about what art equipment to bring with you. |
We are continually updating our links page to show some of the places that you could stay at whilst on our Art week. This page will also showcase some of the attractions and other places of interest to visit nearby - particularly useful for non painting partners or your family if you come down en-masse. www.madeindevon.com

Julie Jameson - your painting guide |
I spent most of my career as a commercial artist/illustrator, I have never had to sell my original paintings so I never have, although I have given them as gifts; one, a scraper board of one of the Queen's horses, was given to her head horseman at the Royal Mews, the Queen liked it so much that he gave the picture to Her Majesty! I have also been a professional photographer, (concentrating on out door events). |
