| Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art GalleryThe Museum houses a series of temporary exhibitions throughout the year and a range of special events from concerts and exhibitions to children's workshops. Please telephone for details.Facilities: Disabled access via side doorway, tearoom, toilets, gift shop, ample parking, education service, guided tours, group bookings accepted, conference/corporate hospitality available, The Museum is licensed to hold Civil Wedding Ceremonies The "Ironmaster" William Crawshay commissioned Cyfarthfa Castle in 1824. This grand castellated mansion overlooked his immensely successful ironworks and has been called "the most successful monument of the Industrial Iron Age in South Wales". Visitors will find a permanent exhibition of 18th and 19th Century paintings and artifacts relating to the lives of the Crawshays and the Iron Industry in Merthyr Tydfil, together with other displays of historical interest. There are many paintings by the famous watercolourist, Penry Williams The Park is frequently the venue for vintage car rallies, horse shows, dog shows, birds of prey displays, craft demonstrations, concerts, charity events and fun runs. The Fete and Gala and Merthyr Show on the late May and August Bank Holidays are the highlights of the year. Opening Times: April 1st - Sept 30th, 10.00am - 5.30pm every day. Oct 1st - March 30th, 10.00am - 4.00pm Tues - Fri, 12.00pm - 4.00pm Sat/Sun (Closed Winter Mondays) Directions: With excellent communication links, Merthyr Tydfil is easy to get to. Cyfarthfa Park is just to the north of Merthyr Town Centre on the A470. It is an easy walk from the town centre or there is a regular bus service. From the bus station take the Pontsticill or Trefechan route to the park gates. By Road From the South take the M4 motorway to Junction 32 and travel north on the A470. From the Midlands take the A465 from Abergavenny and from the north the A470 from Brecon.
